Chad Wilkinson secured his dream job as a Concierge at the Stamford Grand in Glenelg recently, with some assistance from a Career Coach at Career Partners Plus (CPP).
“I was referred through a third party and was open to any assistance that I could get”, said Chad. “Meeting with Greg from CPP was such a positive experience as I was struggling with navigating the electronic application process.”
A Career Coach from CPP, Greg Hatcher, worked with Chad to develop a strategic approach to applying for a job that Chad had his heart set on.
“Chad had excellent experience in the industry but after some time out, was not up with the current requirements for preparing to market himself on-line,” said Greg. “I worked with Chad to analyse the position description and then to match his skills and experience to their needs,” he said. “This is such a critical part of the process and often applicants find it difficult to be objective about their own skills and abilities.”
One requirement of the position was experience in using a booking program, unique to the hotel industry. Chad had no experience in this system. His Career Coach suggested that they do a search on Youtube and as it happened there was an entire training video on the system. Chad completed the training video which became a very important additional asset later in the process. Once his application was fine-tuned and double checked, it was uploaded to the Stamford website. Within a very short time Chad was contacted for a personal interview and Greg did some interview coaching with him prior to that meeting.
In the interview, Chad was able to articulate his suitability for the position and added that he had watched the training video for the booking system. The interviewer was impressed with his pro-activity and Chad felt very positive about his interview responses. Chad was offered the position before Christmas and has worked very hard through the holiday season.
“The job is fantastic, with lots of variety and a good team,” said Chad. “I have become so embedded in the position that I am already training other staff, which is quite unbelievable,” he said. “ I really want to commend the service of Career Partners Plus as I felt that their guidance and assistance was critical in helping me secure a job that I really love.”
